Sporting an oxymoron for a moniker in the attempt to say that in the darkest hour comes the light, the ‘90s urban hip-hop duo P.M. Dawn took the era of shoulder pads and neon by storm, combining rap music with ‘70s soul beats to create a genre of unforgettable pop-rap that would follow them through to the new millennium.

Comprised of brothers Prince Be (Attrell Cordes) and DJ Minute Mix (Jarrett Cordes), P.M. Dawn came about in 1988 as they penetrated the music scene with their debut single "Ode to a Forgetful Mind." The track got the ball rolling for P.M. Dawn, but the brotherly duo didn't see another glimpse at the limelight until 1991, when they released their first full-length album Of the Heart, of the Soul, of the Cross- The Utopian Experience. The release, propelled by the number one-charting smash single "Set Adrift on Memory Bliss," was an instant success, landing on the Billboard 200 and putting Prince Be and DJ Minute Mix on the urban hip-hop scene as fresh new faces in the industry. Following up the success of Of the Heart, of the Soul, of the Cross- The Utopian Experience with 1993's The Bliss Album?, P.M. Dawn once again gained widespread recognition with their album, spawning hit singles "I'd Die Without you" and "Looking Through Patient Eyes." 1995's Jesus Wept continued the P.M. Dawn pop-rap takeover (though not as thunderous as their previous releases) and in 1998 the brothers released Dearest Christian, I'm So Very Sorry for Bringing You Here. Love, Dad, their last album with original material before P.M. Dawn evaporated from the music scene. By 2000, P.M. Dawn had seen their musical sunset, releasing a greatest-hits compilation entitled The Best of P.M. Dawn that also doubled as a farewell album. The release appeared in 2000, marking the end of a decade and a musical era, as well.
