Pras was one-third of the group The Fugees that produced two R&B legends, Lauryn Hill and Wyclef Jean. Though Pras hasn't experienced the fame of his former band-mates, he is still recognized as a successful artist.

Prakazrel Samuel Michel was born in Haiti but raised in Brooklyn. Picking up on music from an early age, in his early teens he met Lauryn Hill, and started the group Tranzlator Crew with Hill and his cousin, Wyclef Jean. The group eventually changed their name to the Fugees and signed with Ruffhouse Records in 1993. Their breakthrough sophomore effort, The Score, hit a chord with a variety of individuals and eventually became one of the biggest-selling rap albums of all time.

Though Pras took the longest to release his solo album, it came at the perfect time. After collaborating on the 1998 "Ghetto Supastar (That Is What You Are)" for the film Bulworth and releasing his first solo track just a year before, he had created a stable fan base even before his debut solo album appeared. The album, Ghetto Supastar didn't do as well as Pras expected, though it landed him a plethora of deals that rounded out this artist. After his single reached almost every Billboard chart imaginable, including the second spot on Rhythmic Top 40, the 15th spot on The Billboard Hot 100 and the 14th spot on the Latin Pop Airplay, Pras commercialized on his "Ghetto Supastar" success -- he turned the lyrics from his hit single into a novel, titled "Ghetto Supastar," which appeared in 1999. Later, he made a deal with Madonna's film production company to create the film Ghetto Supastar, starring himself.

From there, Pras started acting. He appeared in the 1999 Ben Stiller comedy Mystery Men, after which he began production for his Ghetto Supastar film, which eventually changed its name to Turn It Up. He released his sophomore effort in 2005.
