If you haven't heard of Qwote yet, you will soon enough. This Haitian-born artist is revolutionizing R&B, and in a few short years will be the toast of the charts. He's rather new to the scene, with few hits to speak of other than "Don't Wanna Fight," a hot single that you should check out if you haven't already.
Qwote was born in Haiti but raised in New York. Like many other artists in the field of R&B, he grew up listening to Sam Cooke, the Beatles, Michael Jackson and Lenny Kravitz. All these artists became major influences for the aspiring reggae singer. At a very young age, Qwote scored a big opportunity by impressing Trina, another rap artist coming up in the world. They collaborated together on "Phone Sexx," which appeared on Trina's fourth LP, Still Da Baddest.
"Take your hands and close your eyes and picture me/Touching your thighs do you feel your body next to me/I'm in your mind but physically it feels so real when we're on the phone/The way you talk and the moan I put your body to the test it's not/A fantasy but it's phone sex," Qwote sings on that rather explicit track.
It turned out to be a hit record for her, peaking at six on the Billboard 200, and number one on the Top Rap Albums and Top R&B/Hip-hop Albums charts. Qwote's presence on that song helped make it popular, but Trina's success gave him immense exposure--a very fair trade.
He joined the Slip 'N' Slide label, releasing a hot single entitled "Don't Wanna Fight," which was soon after given the remix treatment by Shaggy, and again by David Guetta. The latter turned it into a club hit.
