As a kind of pop boy/girl supergroup, RBD has achieved phenomenal success across Latin America--success that's bled over into America, as well. Starting on the hit daytime soap opera Rebelde, the cast developed their musical talent and hit the road, touring across the Americas as a sexy pop sextet. Each member of the group has a distinct personality that resonates with fans, which probably explains a large part of their appeal across a wide spectrum of listeners.

The group is made up of Alfonso Herrera, Christian Chavez, Dulce Maria, Maite Perroni, Christopher Uckermann and Anahi Portilla. The group of six first came to public attention when Rebelde, a Mexican remake of an Argentine telenovela, hit the airwaves in 2004. The story isn't the most original of premises--a group of upper class youth at a private boarding school form a band and become pop stars. Naturally, there were lots of guest appearances by musical artists, including Hilary Duff, and, inexplicably, the alternative hip-hop supergroup Gorillaz.

Earning massive ratings in Brazil as well as the United States, the show become a hit among Spanish-speaking viewers. The band released several hit singles, all of which charted at number one in Mexico, and cracked (as well as climbed) the Billboard charts here in America. They sold thousands of albums domestically and internationally, and future singles would actually rank within the top 10 of numerous Billboard charts, including one number one, "Ser or Paracer."

Sadly, after much touring, recording, and entertaining, the band decided to break up, announcing the decision in 2008. A farewell tour followed. Fans are left with many hot pop songs that show off Spanish-language music so catchy that it appealed to listeners in a multiplicity of countries, including America.
