Rjd2 set about trying to change the face of the music industry with his eclectic sound and diverse conglomeration of hip-hop tunes that seemed to set him apart from the crowd. His music represents a soulful and melancholy vibe reflecting the world around him. Rjd2 was born Ramble Jon Krohn in 1976 in Eugene, Oregon. He moved to Columbus, Ohio when he was just a child, and this was where he got his start in the music business. He made his entrance into the hip-hop scene in 1998 as the DJ/producer for the Columbus based group known as Megahertz. He gained attention from local fans who loved his unique style and appreciated his attempts to stray away from the mainstream hip-hop sounds that continued to dominate the airwaves in the late 1990s and early 2000s.

Rjd2 also gained more attention when he produced Copywrite's debut hit single called "Holier Than Thou." No long afterwards, in 2001, he made his first appearance as a solo artist on the Def Jux Presents... compilation record. Encouraged by the positive reviews he received after the appearance, he released his debut album Dead Ringer in 2001. The record proved to be one of the best underground hip-hop releases of the year, and it proved that he could compete with some of the biggest names on the hip-hop stage and still hold his own. Several hits that emerged from the album included "The Horror," "Final Frontier" and "Silver Fox."

In the following years Rjd2 continued his collaborative work with other music artists but returned to his solo work with Since We Last Spoke in 2004. Since We Last Spoke achieved a great feat by blending hip-hop elements with those of pop music and introduced the popular tracks "Since We Last Spoke" and "Ring Finger." With the success of the album, Rjd2 decided to dedicate more of his talents to the pop music genre and released The Third Hand in early 2007.
