Leading the pack in reggae-inspired rap music, hip-hop artist Rampage charged the music scene in the 1990s, teaming up with his cousin Busta Rhymes to deliver a double dose of hardcore rap to fans around the globe.
Growing up in Brooklyn, New York, Rampage and Busta Rhymes rapped alongside one another in their youth, heavily influenced by Rampage's musician father. When Busta moved to Long Island, the rapper formed the group Leaders of the New School while Rampage tried his hand at a solo career, first with the record label Rowdy Records in 1994 but quickly on his own again after his debut album Ramp Sack was released. Rampage and Busta collaborated in 1994 on the remix of Craig Mack's "Flava in Ya Ear," also appearing together on four tracks off Busta's 1996 album The Coming.
Busta and Rampage continued joining forces on one another's music for a long time, boosting each others' careers and eventually sparking the flavor for the East Coast rap group Flipmode Squad, started by Busta in 1996. Along with Baby Sham, Lord Have Mercy, Rah Digga and Spliff Star, Busta and Rampage led Flipmode Squad to widespread success in the late 1990s, bolstering the group's 1998 album The Imperial Album to number three on the hip-hop charts, also making it big with the hit single "Cha Cha Cha." Attending to the group while also busy with a solo career, Rampage released his well-acclaimed Scouts honor...By Way of Blood album in 1997, featuring his musical family Flipmode Squad in several tracks. The album reached number 15 on the hip-hop charts, spawning the hit single "We Getz Down," also a smash success on the rap charts. Since the late ‘90s, Rampage has released four more albums, largely trailing behind the success of the rap god Busta Rhymes.
