Ruff Endz is the name of the hip-hop soul duo that formed in the Baltimore in the mid 1990s that included musicians David Chance and Dante Jordan. 1994 was the year that the two started really performing together after each recognizing their individual talents in front of the microphone. They initially started gaining attention after recording a demo tap with producer Troy Patterson but unfortunately found little success with that effort. Luckily, they found their true chance with Epic Records, and they released their debut album, called Love Crimes, in August 2000. The album reflected a contemporary R&B sound, with slow tempos and with the lyrics speaking of lost loves and other romantic trysts. Some of the songs that immediately stood out to fans after the record's release were "No More," "I Apologize" and "Saying I Love You," among many others.
The album helped to introduce the duo as a serious group in the industry and for the most part received positive reviews from both their fans and from music critics. This album really helped to demonstrate that both musicians have a certain knack for soulful voices. After the release of Love Crimes, the group took a brief hiatus of about two years before releasing their follow up in the spring of 2002. Someone to Love You actually was even more well received than Ruff Endz's first album and became known for the title track. Another great song on the record is the ballad "You Mean the World to Me."
Ruff Endz has thus far established themselves as a very talented band that has helped to redefine the R&B genre. They are no longer unknown or obscure but instead create excitement among fans and respect among critics. Look out for more upcoming albums by Ruff Endz as they are not likely to leave the music spotlight anytime soon.
