Sanctus Real is a well-known Christian rock group that is based out of Ohio. The group formed with the vision of members Matt Hammitt and Chris Rohman in 1996. Both guitarists were in the 10th grade at Toledo Christian High School, and their determination to bring their love of music and their love of God together prevailed when they added drummer Mark Graalman and bassist Steve Goodrum to the lineup. Their style can be described as energetic and good natured while also being sentimental and a little bit melancholy. Their ability to reach the masses with their different styles of recording and performing has helped them to establish a fan base, not only with Christian music fans but also with a more secular audience.

The group set out by releasing several independent albums. The first up was All This Talk of Aliens, which appeared in 1998. The record helped to spawn some hits for the boys and put their names more firmly in the Christian music circuit. Next up was the album titled Message for the Masses, which dropped in 1999. This effort also proved to be a success and subsequently led to Nothing to Lose, which appeared in 2001. Then the band took the steps to sign with Sparrow Records and released 2002's Say It Loud. The mainstream label debut featured an edgy rock sound and featured the hit songs "Captain's Chair," "Hey Wait" and "After Today."

After Say It Loud, they released a five song EP supplement called SVERIGEEP, which appeared in 2003. In the year following the band members busied themselves by placing songs on two Sparrow anthologies. The songs were "Beautiful Day" and "Promised Land." They also released a highly-regarded single called "Everything About You." Sanctus Real has proved their abilities in the recording studio and up on stage.
