Involved in the ‘90s R&B group Dru Hill yet best known for his booty-shakin' solo single "Thong Song" as a tune praising women's underwear, pop-rap superstar Sisqó unleashed his musical dragon in the early 2000s, completing a series of all-too-often raunchy and scandalous singles before fading off the music scene, leaving an untouchable legacy in his wake.
A Baltimore, Maryland native, Sisqó (whose real name is Mark Andrews) grew up amid a burgeoning East Coast rap scene. Andrews co-founded the contemporary R&B quartet Dru Hill in 1995, named after their neighborhood Druid Hill Park, and together with other members Jazz, Nokio and Woody, Dru Hill became one of the best-known hip-hop groups of the ‘90s. Dru Hill released songs like "Tell Me," "In My Bed" and "How Deep is Your Voice" in the mid-‘90s, but by the early 2000s Sisqó had also been pushing a solo career. Still holding onto his part in Dru Hill, Sisqó began playing around with his solo music, striking gold with his 1999 debut album Unleash the Dragon, a release propelled by the smash single "Thong Song." Hacking into a wildly rebellious and otherwise dedicated teenage fan base, Sisqó pushed his luck with a solo career, also releasing the love song "Incomplete" while leading his debut album into multi-platinum sales.
After conquering the music scene both in a group and individually, Sisqó delved further into the entertainment industry, making a stab at acting in the teen comedy Get Over It before signing a five-picture deal with Miramax. After Sisqó's 2001 release Return of the Dragon, the artist slowly started fading from the mainstream R&B scene, appearing on DMX's "What These B*****s Want" and Lil' Kim's "How Many Licks" while attempting a comeback with Dru Hill in the early 2000s, as well.
