The story of Soul Embraced begins with Shredded Corpse and Living Sacrifice, a couple of death metal/grindcore rock bands that formed in Arkansas in the early 1990s. Shredded Corpse released a few demos and two full-length albums, 1996's Exhumed and Molested and 1998's Human Obliteration, which turned out to be the band's final release. Shredded Corpse's remains tore off to join other projects. The drummer, David Sroczynski, and lead singer/guitarist/keyboardist David "Rocky" Gray entwined their metal spirits to form Soul Embraced along with Lance Garvin and Chad Moore, both of Living Sacrifice.

Soul Embraced started out slowly, but already had a strong base of admirers in the Arkansas metal scene, as the band members were all fairly well known within that community. Religion also helped to spur Soul Embraced's success early on and it continues to be a strength of theirs to this day. The band's lyrics can be evangelical Christian in nature, bringing in a somewhat neglected fan base of death metal rockers who want to live like the ultimate zombie- Jesus. Still, their music never comes across as preachy, which would be hard to do considering the vocals are scream-growled at a nearly incomprehensibly high decibel. Soul Embraced's secular appeal has not been hampered by their faith.

As the band's roster mutated and interchanged, Soul Embraced released an initial EP in 1999 called The Fleshless. Four full-length studio albums (2000's For the Incomplete, 2002's This is My Blood, 2003's Immune and 2008's Dead Alive) have given Soul Embraced a firm base from which to continue their upward climb to the elite of Christian death metal. In one of their most recent albums, Dead Alive, Soul Embraced was composed of Chad Moore on lead vocals, Rocky Gray on drums, Devin Castle on guitar and Jeff Bowie on bass.
