Steve Forbert was born in Meridian, Mississippi in 1954, he started his musical career at the tender age of ten when he was taught to play the guitar by a cousin. Born in the city that birthed The Father of Country Music, Jimmie Rodgers, Forbert had a huge set of musical footprints to fill. Leaving small town life when he was 21, he carried his music with him to New York City. He started out living at the "Y" and busking at Grand Central Station, but soon found a niche for himself in Greenwich Village where he began to thrive. His debut album Alive on Arrival was released in 1978, and he was hailed as the "Next Dylan." The album was well received and its follow-up Jackrabbit Slim reached the Top 20 with the single "Romeo's Tune."

The ‘80s proved to be a difficult time for Forbert, who was locked into a contract with Columbian Records and struggled to make a record that the company would approve of. However, Young Guitar Days and More Young Guitar Days are both compilations of material that he recorded during the ‘80s that prove that the difficulties were not due to a lack of talent or material, and may have been more of a problem with album compilations and difficult relationships than anything else. Much of that time he was locked into a legal battle that kept him from releasing new music during the majority of the decade.

Steve Forbert is still going strong and has really settled into his career over the past 20 years. He believes in creating truthful music that really speaks to people, and does a great job of it. Music is definitely his passion and he has a great flair for sound. The music that he has created over the years does justice to the legacy that he has followed.
