The name Suzy Boggess is recognizable both by pop fans and country fans from the 1980s and 1990s, and she later reinvented her sound in the 2000s. The traditional sound in her country music satisfied those looking for a trip back to the roots of the genre, while her willingness to experiment gave her sounds a mainstream feel that fans loved. Boggess was born in Illinois in 1956 to a musical family who helped her develop her talent. Along with singing, she also learned to play the piano, drums and guitar. After high school, Bogguss attended Illinois State University where she majored in art. Her interest in music hadn't faded as Bogguss honed her performing skills as well.

She set out after college to start gaining more experience and played clubs and coffeehouses around the country. The mid 1980s found Bogguss heading to the country music capitol, Nashville. She had various day jobs while playing gigs and eventually landed a job at Dollywood. It was that gig that led to a deal with Liberty/Capitol Records, as a talent scout came to the theme park and saw her sing and took one of her tapes. She started by releasing a few singles before dropping her debut album, Somewhere Between, in 1988. The album reached number 41 on the country charts and announced Bogguss's arrival as a recording artist.

She deepened her fan base with 1990's Moment of Truth but really hit it big with 1991's Aces. The album had multiple hit singles and reached gold status. Now a well-known name in the industry, Bogguss released Voices in the Wind in 1992. She released successful follow ups Something Up My Sleeve in 1993 and Simpatico in 1994 and also released a greatest hits album in 1994. She released two more albums on Capitol, Give Me Some Wheels and Nobody Love, Nobody Gets Hurt. Bogguss switched to a smaller label, but failed to find the success of her previous albums until she released Swing in 2003, a pop, jazz and swing album. She found more success in jazz with the release of Sweet Danger in 2007.
