Many in the United States remember Take That for their hit song "Back for Good," but in England they are far more than a one-hit wonder. They are often mentioned in the same breath as the Beatles because they were the first boy band to hit it big since the Beatles' heyday. Take That first formed in 1990s as Britain's version of New Kids on the Block. All five members were from working-class backgrounds; Howard Donald was the oldest member at the time at 21 with Gary Barlow and Jason Orange being 19 and Rob Williams and Mark Owen being only 16.

They picked the name Take That and set out working on an album. Their first sound was decidedly pop as they secured a record deal in 1992. Their first three singles barely made a blip on the British radar, but they started getting noticed with the fourth, a cover of "It Only Takes a Minute." By the end of that year, the band was in the midst of full-blown teen mania with their album Take That and Party. They continued their incredible reign on top with Everything Changes in 1993 and Nobody Else in 1995. The superstar bliss, however, couldn't last forever.

Fame can take its toll, which it seemed to do on Williams, who quit the band in 1995. The other four soldiered on, but broke up at the beginning of 1996. The band members had a tough time making solo careers and often were at odds with one another. The band stayed apart until they decided to do a documentary in 2005. The documentary was a massive success, leading to the release of a greatest hits album that same year. The members, minus Williams, released a new, more grown-up album in 2006 along with a successful tour.
