Tenacious D is the brainchild of comedians Jack Black and Kyle Gass. The duo blends comedic lyrics with an acoustic metal sound that has earned them a fan base that would rival most popular rock bands. Their songwriting is as high-quality as it is funny and listeners can hear that the tandem has actual musical talent, unlike some other comedic musicians.

The duo began playing on the Los Angeles comedy scene and parlayed their success on that circuit into an HBO series. Driven by the wild humor of Black, the show gained popularity and eventually landed the tandem a record deal. The material they would produce would range from smoking marijuana to creating the greatest song in the world, all boasting a comedic value that could get at least a chuckle out of just about anybody.

In 2001, Tenacious D released their eponymous debut on Epic. With a fan base already established from their HBO show, the duo found considerable success with the album. Featuring the likes of former Nirvana drummer and Foo Fighters frontman David Grohl and The Dust Brothers, the 21-track record came equipped with catchy tunes that really made you laugh. Perhaps their most popular track off the album was "Tribute," a song about playing the best song in the world. "And we played the first thing that came to our heads/Just so happened to be/The Best Song in the World/it was The Best Song in the World," the duo sings on the track. Other song titles on the record included "One Note Song," "Karate Schnitzel," and "Rock Your Socks."

While Black kept up a busy acting schedule, appearing an a slew of popular films, he and Gass eventually got back in the studio and released The Pick of Destiny in 2006. Continuing with their favorite joke of all, constantly declaring that they're the best band in the world, the album hit home with all the tandem's fans that had been readily awaiting another Tenacious D album for five years. The record even cracked the top 10 on the Billboard 200.
