Rap group Terror Squad was formed in the late ‘90s and was headlined initially by its two most established members, Fat Joe and Big Pun. Rounding out the group were members Cuban Link, Armageddon, Prospect, Tony Sunshine and Triple Seis. The group made their first appearance on Fat Joe's 1998 release Don Cartagena, most notably on the track "The Hidden Hand."

Terror Squad released the group's self-titled debut album the following year. Beneath the stereotypical surface themes the record sported were some intelligent and clever aspects. Fat Joe and Big Pun stayed mostly in the background on the album, giving center stage to the less-known members of the group. Terror Squad fared well on the mainstream charts as well as the hip-hop and rap tracks.

The group took a major hit a year later with the death of Big Pun, probably Terror Squad's most recognizable member at the time. The group essentially faded into obscurity as Fat Joe pursued his solo career, which began to flourish as the 2000s progressed. While Joe featured members of Terror Squad on his albums, it seemed like any further LPs from the group as a whole were not to be.

By 2004, only Armageddon, Tony Sunshine and Prospect remained. Five years after their debut disc, Terror Squad released True Story. The record heavily featured the group's new member, Remy (a.k.a. Remy Martin), a female mc. The album shot to the top of the charts, propelled by the success of the mega-hit "Lean Back." The song rekindled Fat Joe's career, which was dwindling after significant success in earlier in the 2000s.
