The genre of grindcore has had many contributors like Napalm Death and Carcass, but one that has often been lost in the crowds is Terrorizer. Terrorizer shocked metalcore fans with their brilliant release of the album World Downfall in 1989, and ever since the record has been hailed as one of the leaders in the genre with its 16-track, 45 minute long showering of growls, blasting beats and deafening tones sure to leave all ear drums ringing. Some tracks that made a lasting impression on listeners were "Fear of Napalm," "Corporation Pull In" and "Dead Shall Rise." The album has survived through the years to become a tried and true grindcore classic, pulling in hardcore metal fans even on into today.
Terrorizer members David Vincent, Pete Sandoval, Jesse Pintado and Oscar Garcia showed a unique combination of groundbreaking speed and aggression in their work, never once stopping to take a breath. They were not together very long as a band, but World Downfall became one of the best albums in the grindcore genre, forever solidifying their spot on the metal stage. Their style of music can be guessed by the titles of their songs like "Strategic Warheads," "Enslaved by Propaganda" and "Dead Shall Rise." This is not a group for young children or for the faint of heart.
Since their breakup, Terrorizer has inspired many grindcore imitators to follow faithfully in their music style. The 1980s produced many groundbreaking bands in the hardcore metal genre, many of which, like Terrorizer, have broken up or moved onto other endeavors. But their music lives on with those most dedicated to the harsh words and loud style that epitomizes grindcore. If you think your ears are in desperate need of a hardcore lashing, be sure to check out Terrorizer's greatest contribution, World Downfall.
