The timeless sounds of rock and roll are rooted in the sound of The Band. Not just any other band, The Band included members Rick Danko, Levon Helm, Garth Hudson, Richard Manuel and Robbie Robertson and together these musicians reached across the decades, connecting different generations with their timeless and unforgettable hits. Their most notable time on the stage was from the years 1967 to 1976 and then again from 1983 to 1999. During the first part of their career, The Band released a couple of the most critically albums of the late 1960s- Music From Pink and The Band. After breaking up in 1976, they reformed in 1983 and became increasingly popular with their frequent touring and their many musical collaborations with Bob Dylan.
The Band got their chance when they were introduced to Bob Dylan who subsequently invited The Band on tour, and the musical talents joined the sounds of folk and rock and elicited excitement in a whole new generation of fans. It was after this valuable experience on the road with one of the most acclaimed musicians of the time that The Band put together their first album called Music from Big Pink. The album actually included three songs that were co-written by Dylan. "This Wheel's on Fire," "Tears of Rage" and "I Shall Be Released" all became successful songs for their time and gave fans a good inclination of the music to come from The Band.
After their initial success, The Band took their act on tour and received praise from across the board. They followed up with a second album called The Band and released several more before they went on hiatus in 1976. In 1983, the members reunited, and although they were no longer at the peak of their popularity, they were well received, especially by those who had been waiting for a reformation of the highly successful rock band. For years, The Band treated all those needing a break from the humdrum of everyday life. They would come to the rescue, belting out those feel good, classic rock tunes.
