Just as its name implies, the Berzerker releases heavy, death-grind metal music that leaves nothing but destruction it its wake.

The Berzerker began as a studio solo project by Luke Kenny in Melbourne, Australia in 1995, and although the lineup has expanded, the band prefers to remain a mystery, wearing mutant masks during performances and not revealing their names. The Berzerker signed with Earache Records in 1998 and released their misanthropic eponymous debut album two years later. The Berzerker contained the lead single "Reality," for which the Aussie band issued their first music video. MTV banned the video for "Reality" from airing due to its violent imagery.

The Berzerker hit the road with likeminded acts like Dying Fetus, Skinless and Grouts and subsequently stepped in the studio to begin recording their sophomore album. In 2002 the even more ambitious (and by that I mean horrific and shocking) Dissimulate was released and included a cover of Carcass' "Corporal Jigsore Quandary." Their mixture of death metal, speedcore and industrial was embraced by the hardcore community despite the mainstream media's reluctance to accept their grindcore sound because of its monstrous (literally, they dress as monsters on stage) vehicle and epilepsy-inducing images.

With two formidable death metal albums under their (most likely metal-studded) belt, the Berzerker established themselves to be one of the most horrifying and talented groups in the genre (and for the death metal set, being scary is a good thing). In 2005 the Berzerker came back with their third album, World of Lies, which is their most recent effort to date. The Berzerker is not done wreaking havoc on the music scene, so stay tuned to see what this Australian outfit plans on unleashing next; it is sure to not be meant for the faint-hearted.
