Taking a liking to heavily-played guitar strumming and dance-worthy beats, London-based new wave group the Fixx flooded American soil for several years in the mid-1980s, injecting American pop culture with a fix of that irresistible British pop/rock goodness and a flair for flamboyantly ‘80s hits. The Fixx left America with the hit single "One Thing Leads to Another," but the group's matching quirky persona will go down in history next to their 1983 hit.

The peculiar mainstream pop/rock band was formed by college friends Cy Curnin (vocals/keyboards) and Adam Woods (drums) in the early 1980s, and was soon complete with the addition of Jamie West-Oram (guitar), Rupert Greenall (keyboards) and Charlie Barret (bass), all of whom responded to an ad for group members that Curnin and Woods had posted. First adopting the moniker the Portraits, the five-piece jam band recorded one single (the dud "Hazards in the Home") for Ariola Records before altering their sound - and their band's name. Changing their name to what they hoped would be the result of the switch-up, the Fixx then recorded "Lost Planes," the hit single that led to a record deal with MCA.

Shuttered Room, the Fixx's 1982 debut, featured the U.K. hits "Stand or Fall" and "Red Skies," but it wasn't until 1983's Reach the Beach that the Fixx actually did reach the sands of the U.S., striking gold with the album. The pulsating "One Thing Leads to Another" spawned a Fixx sensation in the States, and other singles "Saved by Zero" and "Sign of Fire" also reached the Top 40. Adding to their repertoire in style, the Fixx next released 1984's Phantoms, followed by 1986's Walkabout and 1988's Calm Animals. After the Fixx's 1991 album Ink, the stylish British rockers eventually faded into the backdrop of up-and-coming acts of the future, but thankfully they came back with 1998's Elemental and 1999's Woodland.
