The Lashes have burst onto the scene as of late with powerful pop rock sounds combined with the catchiness of pop. The band came together as frontman Ben Clark was figuring out his musical dreams. Clark has been writing songs with his father since childhood and grew up listening to groups like the Beatles. He grew up in Spokane, Washington with a love for punk rock, which inevitably sent him four hours away to the music-loving city of Seattle. Although Seattle is a happening city for music, it is also a tough city to make it in for any musician.
When Clark found himself without a band, he formed one of his own with friends he met in Seattle as well as friends from back home. None of the band members are originally from Seattle and the lineup consists of Scotty Rickard on guitar, Nate Mooter on bass and vocals, Eric Howk on guitar, Mike Loggins on drums and Jacob Hoffman on keyboards and vocals. The band started playing around the area, honing their skills and building a loyal fan base. They released an EP in 2004 titled The Stupid Stupid on Lookout Records. They embarked on a tour soon after to promote the album with Ted Lio and the Pharmacists and The Libertines.
They soon had a record deal with Columbia, but internal problems for the label pushed back the release of their debut album. They finally got it released on a subsidiary of Columbia, Red Ink, in 2005. Get It had an unmatched sound, but it was not promoted and therefore did not reach its full potential. The Lashes were met with hard times in 2007 when Howk had an accident and was in the hospital. He eventually recovered and the band released another EP, Thank You, in 2008.
