The Long Blondes is a group of musicians from the city of Sheffield, which is located just above the midlands and just at the bottom of the north of England. The group started off with a strong idea of what bands they were not going to be emulating, and a solid thought to creating something entirely their own. This is as evidenced by the ironic nature of their name, since the group itself is made up of three brunettes and two brown-haired boys. They are definitely a modern band with their own sound and their own look and an attitude that aims towards ruling the world of music, with a freedom that is totally theirs.
The group consists of guitarist Dorian Cox, bassist Reenie Delany, guitarist/vocalist Emma Chaplin, vocalist Kate Jackson and drummer Screech Louder. Reenie Delany may or may not have found a guitar in the attic which inspired her to start the band, but either way Dorian was soon recruiting Screech and discovering Kate at a vintage clothing store. It may have been 2003 or it may have been 2005 that the band got started but whenever it was, their music started making waves when they caught the attention of a small independent label from Sheffield.
Not long after that they found themselves on the whirlwind hop among independent labels and singles that leads up to a band's first album. Rough Trade was the label that finally caught them, signing the group in 2006 and releasing their debut Someone to Drive You Home on November 6 of that year. The album features songs about the difficulties of growing up and learning about relationships the hard way. The album was the first of two that the group has released so far, with the second being Couples which was released May 6, 2008.
