It all started with a 2005 movie about a kids' rock band. From there The Naked Brothers would become a sensation not only with follow-up films but also with a television series and a video game. The plot of this rockumentary/mockumentary centers around two real life brothers who are part of a band called The Silver Boulders. Along with their other bandmates, the two struggled to agree on the most perfect song. Eventually they discover that the crowd just eats up the lyrics to "Rosalina," which is a song about girls and love, predictably not a popular topic among 10 and 11 year old boys. In the end of the film, all works out for the band and the decision is made to continue to follow the trials and tribulations of the kid rock group with several movies, all with differing plot lines and eventually a television series is conceived.

The original movie featured members Nat Wolff, the lead singer and songwriter, drummer Alex Wolff, David Julian Levi on the keyboards, cellist Thomas Batuello and Joshua Kaye as the guitarist. Josh's stepsister, "Rosalina" played by Allie DiMeco is the motivation for the band's hit song. The television series started almost directly after the release of the second film, but the storyline dates back to activities stemming from the first film.

The Naked Brothers Band series earned Nickelodeon's best debut ratings in seven years and boasts a great soundtrack. Their music is generally aimed to appeal to the younger generation and consists of mostly catchy pop tunes like "Crazy Car" and "If That's Not Love."
