The Mel Brooks' show The Producers has become both a favorite film and stage production since it first came to the screen in 1968. Brooks later made it into a musical, which has become a comedy phenomenon. The show has won multiple Tony Awards and featured some of the top stars both on stage and in film. The story revolves around producer Max Bialystock, who was once the toast of Broadway. His recent shows, however, have been anything but successes and closed on opening night. His plays are still be financed by the generosity of old ladies who Bialystock romances.

His news goes from bad to worse after his accountant, Leo Bloom, visits him about his last failed play. Apparently, there are a couple of thousand dollars that do not add up. Through trying to fix the error, Bialystock and Bloom figure out that with the right fundraising, someone could actually make more money on a flop than a hit. Bloom is initially against the idea of exploiting this discovery, Bialystock soon convinces him to give it a try and also fulfill Bloom's dream of being a producer. To make sure that the production is a flop, they decide to go with a show written by a former Nazi called Springtime for Hitler.

They hire a slew of misfits as the cast and get to work producing their disaster. The show is finally set to open with the boys raising far more funds than they need to make the show. They sit back to wait for people to start taking offense to the terrible plot, but instead the audience is left in stitches at the hilarious portrayal of one of history's biggest villains. Bialystock and Bloom panic after the rave reviews of the play and more hilarity ensues as they try to sort out the mess.
