Liverpool's greatest band, The Zutons, emerged when other similar emo punk bands like Franz Ferdinand, Kaiser Chiefs appeared in the early ‘00s. But something stopped The Zutons from seeming just like the rest of them - their oddity. Guitar hooks about zombies and dancehalls, the boys of The Zutons were anything but the typical Liverpool spawn. Finding inspiration in the unlikeliest of groups--from John Barry to the Talking Heads and Ennio Morricone--their melodies have led them to great success in their home country via loyal fans and eccentric music that never seems to go out of style.
The group formed in 2002 with David McCabe (vocals/guitar), Boyan Chowdhury (lead guitar), Russell Pritchard (bass) and Sean Payne (drums), followed by Abi Harding (saxophone) later. With the help of the Coral's label Deltasonic, the group released their first few singles,"Devil's Deal" and "Creepin' an' a Crawlin,'" with the label by May 2003 before seeing their debut album appear that same year. Who Killed.....The Zutons sold over 600,000 copies in the UK alone, even with all the trashy critic reviews, and gave the boys their first Nationwide Mercury Prize nomination. The next year, the album came to the US via Epic Records as The Zutons toured our nation with the Thrills.
2006 saw the release of their sophomore effort, Tired of Hanging Around, which instantly went double platinum with more poppy hit singles and tracks revolving around stalking and death. Producer Mark Ronson fell in love with their international hit single, "Valerie," single so much that he reworked it and added Amy Winehouse to the mix. Chowdhury left the group in 2007 and added Paul Molloy, who previously worked with The Skylarks.
With their third album, You Can Do Anything, the boys stepped out of their element and moved to Los Angeles to record the album and toured in the UK during 2008
