Ty Herndon has held a variety of jobs over the years, but he is most famous for his career as a country music star. Herndon grew up in Butler, Alabama, which is where he first started singing when he was six. Be it church or a talent contest, he was already turning heads with his top-notch vocals. He continued working on his vocals, leading to a job as a cast member at Opryland USA when he was just 17. It was there that he was picked up by a representative for Star Search, which he ended up winning. From there, he started singing on numerous cable variety shows. He also became the host of the show Countryline.
The mid 1980s found Herndon as a cast member for the television show You Write the Songs. Although it looked like he was on his way to the top, Herndon still could not secure a record deal. He was also taken advantage of by those in the entertainment industry he worked with, leading to his mother losing her home. He decided to start playing live at Dallas to earn some money, where he was soon a favorite entertainer. He won the Texas Entertainer of the Year in 1993, leading finally to a recording contract. He released his first album in 1995 called What Mattered Most, and the album gave him his first number-one song.
The same time he was reaching the top, his addiction to drugs surfaced, forcing Herndon into treatment. He soon returned to the scene and released another hit album, Living in a Moment. He was inarguably one of the top country artists during the mid and late 1990s, gaining him fortune and fame. He hit a wall of depression in the early 2000s and stopped making music until his friends and family urged him to recover. He came back to release multiple successful albums including 2007's Right About Now.
