The name Voltio is synonymous with reggaeton, as this talented Puerto Rican climbed the reggaeton ranks in the mid-2000s and continues to churn out albums that do the genre justice.

Born in Santurce, Puerto Rico as Julio Ramos, Voltio (which means Voltage in English) grew up in the Parque Ecuestre section of Carolina and got his start in the music business when he formed the rap group Masters of Funk as a teenager. Along with Hector Bambino and Rey 29, the trio was a pioneering force in the reggaeton movement to come despite never releasing an album. After Masters of Funk were no more, Voltio formed the duo Karel y Voltio with Karel and they released their debut album, Duenos del Estilo. The album didn't do very well, but Elias de Leon, owner and founder of White Lion Records (home to Tego Calderon) liked Voltio and signed him as a solo act. Voltage/AC was the resulting album and it spawned hits "Julito Marana" and "Bumper" as well as soaring to the number two spot on Billboard's Top Reggae Albums.

After releasing a breakthrough debut album, Voltio issued his sophomore effort, Voltio, in late 2005 via a White Lion partnership with Sony Norte. The eponymous album included a few songs from Voltio's debut as well as new songs such as standout track "Chulin Culin Chunfly." With two albums under his belt, Voltio established himself as one of the leading voices in reggaeton. Voltio's most recent album is 2007's En lo Claro, which snagged the number 24 spot on Billboard's Top Heatseekers chart.
