Westside Connection is a powerhouse group formed by superstar rappers Ice Cube, Mack 10, and WC. In 1996, the group came together to record their first single, which was released in September of that year. Their album, Bow Wow was released in October, not long after the single entered the public arena. The album reached number two on the Billboard 200 and reached the number one position on Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums. The album also generated two hit singles, with "Bow Down" reaching number one on the Hot Rap Singles and "Gangstas Make the World Go Round" reaching number 10 on the same charts.

Following their successful first album, the group went their separate ways for a full seven years. During that time, Ice Cube released his albums War & Peace, Vol. 1 (The War Disc) and Vol. 2 (The Peace Disc). Mack 10 released Based on a True Story, Recipe, Hoo-Bangin'- The Mix Tape, vol. 1, The Paper Route, Bang or Ball, and Presents da Hood. WC released his albums The Shadiest One and Ghetto Heisman.

Westside Connection then reconvened in 2003 to release their latest album, Terrorist Threats, on December 9, 2003. The group's second album hit The Billboard 200 and topped out at number 16, and on Top R&B/Hip-Hop albums it landed the spot at number three. They proved that their brand of hard-core gangsta rap was not dead. The album was a triumph for the group and increased their already-immense street cred. The group managed to pass up younger and more fashionable members of the gangsta rap world to reach top places in the charts. It is incredible that seven years passed in between the two albums that the group has produced so far, and they were still able to create raps that were relevant.
