503Matt StollExtreme Hangman is the latest mobile version of the scratch pad game where users try to guess a word or phrase in an attempt to avoid being hung from a noose, well, their stick figure Hangman that is.
The three available ways of playing the game are Single Play, Challenge Mode, and Network. Single play is for one player only and users are allowed to pick from different categories to guess words. These include Actors, Comic Books and Movie Titles, but new word packs can be downloaded at any time through the Download option. Challenge mode is a two-player game where both players take turns guessing each other’s word with pass and play. In Network, players can challenge others via mobile-to-mobile and even mobile-to-PC.
Though the style of play doesn’t vary much in familiarity, its presentation is what gives it the extreme hook. Hangman is usually drawn one piece at a time when a letter is guessed incorrectly and while that remains true in this case, it is now not only animated, but also Hangman is put into other predicaments such as escaping from zombies or avoiding gunfire while facing a firing squad. As the letters are guessed correctly or incorrectly, you’ll see Hangman dealing with the treacherous situations in full animation.
This is neat to watch, but all things considered, it can seem quite gruesome as your poor little stick figure squirms dangling from the noose, looses limb functions when shot, or gets mauled alive from attacking zombies. Ideally, this should make you want to try harder and save Hangman from danger, but realistically, I think more players will be interested in seeing just what becomes of the Hangman, especially when you can download more animations as well.
As it stands, Extreme Hangman isn’t very difficult and then you are also given a 2-hint allowance, so unless you enjoy watching Hangman’s demise, the most entertainment will come from playing against a friend in Challenge or Network modes.
