In this case, the playing pieces are varieties of precious gems to unite vertically or horizontally before they reach the top of the screen. The gems can be moved across the top of the screen so that they land precisely where you want them to when they fall. As one drops, another will appear at the top that you must then locate where to position. If you wait too long to find the right spot, it will fall automatically wherever it is located. After a group disappears, any gems that were above the group move down into the vacated spaces. In each level, only a certain amount of gems will drop and you must survive long enough to go through all of them. These amounts will vary as you progress and the rate at which the gems fall will also increase. This adds pressure to the game and makes it more interesting. As is common, special gems are available that will aid in your cause. A Pick Axe gem will clear all of the gems below and to the side of where it lands. A Black gem will remove all of those that are identical to the one it lands on. The real trick is to use these in order to earn bonus points by creating cascading chains in which one group is formed and removed as a result of another group being removed. Because this is a casual game, it can be played with only one hand and the controls perform precisely as they should. The gems have various colors and shapes to them so as not to be confused and all of the necessary information is provided on-screen for easy viewing. Sound is simplified to simple effects and does a good job of providing noise. Gem Drop isn’t a far cry from other similar games and therefore may not get your attention if you already have or enjoy something else in the same style. This game is endless and can be resumed at any time, so if you have yet to download something like it, maybe it’s time you did.
