506Jesse GarciaRocky Legacy is a new boxing title that serves as a tribute to all Rocky films of the past. Playing as the Italian Stallion himself, users must train hard and face some of his most colorful opponents including Apollo Creed and Ivan Drago. The game delivers two modes, one to challenge fighters individually and the other to train and relive each dramatic bout. In Challenge, you take on only one fighter of your choosing from those available. This plays out as a quick match if you’re in a time crunch but you can only fight against boxers you have already defeated in Story mode. This Story mode, of course, is longer and requires you to do a bit of training before taking on opponents. What happens here is that Rocky has three skills that must be improved in order to put up any sort of fight. These are Speed, Stamina and Strength. In essence, you spar against the CPU and your performance dictates how these skills are increased. This is done automatically so there is no need for you to set them. You can continue training until you are maxed out at that level, and then you should be strong enough to challenge whatever boxer may come. You could also proceed and challenge fighters by only training once, but most likely that fight will be in vain since they are quite adept. Fighting is delivered with one-thumb controls in the form of high punch, low punch, block and move back. These are controlled via four-way movement on the D-Pad and an extra punch, the Haymaker, is accessed through the action button. Using the Haymaker is the only way to knock down the opponent, but first you must also have reduced the opponent’s health to zero and have connected enough punches to make the final blow usable. Each punch connected will not only decrease the opposing fighter’s health, but will also move him back towards the ropes. If you’re lucky enough to pin him there, you can really wail away. Of course, the opposite is also true if you don’t block or move away at the right times. The game is predicated by sticking and moving because even if you do block, some health will be diminished. Rocky Legacy is a simple enough arcade style boxing game that still involves a bit of technique and luck to win. It has colorful graphics and decent controls and if there weren’t already two other heavy hitters out there on mobile, this could have been the boxing game of choice.
