With Skipping Stone, the age-old pastime of throwing a stone across the water becomes available and instantly provides a reason to lose track of all your time. The object of Skipping Stone is to throw a stone and skip it off the water for the longest distance possible. Using one-thumb controls, a power meter is used to calculate the strength of the throw across the stretch of water and as the stone hits the surface, a button must be pressed with precise timing so that it continues to bounce along. If the button is pressed too soon or too late, the stone will lose momentum and sink. There are two modes available. Distance is to see how far you can make the stone travel and Splash is to see how many times you can bounce off the water. There are three bounce speeds available so as to help in the difficulty. Along the way, Item Boxes are located and these will open helpful power-ups or hazards. They include a whale, to fill the power gauge once again, an eraser to render your stone temporarily invisible and a spring to increase your bounce. Like a box of chocolates, you never know what you’re gonna get. The game features cartoon-style graphics while a variety of zany backdrops scroll in the background. They are all quite colorful and inviting. Sound effects and music are also apparent throughout the game and have that same zaniness to them. The most important part of this game is the response time of the button press to make the stone bounce and while not perfect, you can still gauge the appropriate time. Skipping Stone is another charming title that you will only find available for mobile phones. The premise of the game is quite simple yet the interaction and desire to go as far as possible will keep your thirst for playing the game. It certainly appeals to players of all ages and can be played in any amount of time. This is another great example of what wireless games can do best and if you’re a casual player, there’s no reason not to get it.
