Their popularity, addictiveness and ease of play have won over millions of fans and are now therefore getting the mobile treatment with Sorrent’s help. Unmistakably, Zuma is on top of that list of online games and after playing this mobile version, you’ll agree that it belongs on top of the mobile games list as well. Zuma is an action puzzle game where you must fire balls from a rotating frog idol to create sets of three or more along an advancing string of balls. By creating the sets, the balls will be eliminated and the entire string must be done with before it reaches the golden skull. There are three modes of play available. Adventure features over 75 levels on 13 different board layouts. Once begun, you can select any stage up to the highest level completed. Gauntlet allows you to choose from one of 12 boards and the object here is to remain alive for as long as possible, scoring as many points as possible. The balls just keep on coming! In Practice, you select from 12 boards and keep playing until all your lives are spent. Like the PC game, score is accrued on how quickly you finish the puzzle, how many chain reactions you create and the amount of coins picked up. Special balls will appear within the string and these will slow the pace or reverse the string’s advancement. Others will blow-up to remove additional balls or provide an accuracy pointer to clearly show where your ball will land before firing. At the end of each level, be sure to scroll down past the statistics to see strategy tips. Controls consist of simple aim-and-shoot mechanics both on the keypad and directional pad. The frog rotates smoothly and pressing UP will swap balls to shoot while pressing DOWN will rotate the frog 180 degrees instantly. The controls are great and very easy to use. Sound effects are also excellent. All have been included to punctuate every action. The detail to the game is quite astounding as it seems a mirror image of the online version with great animations and effects. An online component has been added where you can post your best score and view it on a worldwide leader board. (At the time of this writing, the highest score was 1,326,680. Wow!) And at the end of each stage, you will also receive a fortune, much like the kind you find in fortune cookies. Whether it makes sense or not, it doesn’t matter. This is still a nice touch to go with the theme. Zuma rewards strategy and skill, but doesn’t require it to be enjoyed. It’s completely addictive and difficult to put down. If you’re in the market for a new puzzle game, or simply want to spend your money wisely, this is the one to get.
