Feeding Frenzy is a fish tale of sorts where players strive to become the biggest fish in the sea by snacking on other fishies smaller than themselves but not without their own inherent danger of getting munched on by even bigger fish.
The more players eat, the larger they become and once players are the largest fish on-screen, they will advance to the next level until finally facing off against the Shark King. There are a total of 16 levels with four underwater worlds to play in.
At the start of a level you’re instructed as to what type of fish you are allowed to eat. Anything else you’ll have to avoid until you are once again told that you can now eat a bigger type of fish. A few extra items float about that include extra points or power-up bubbles to catch. Power-ups will help you swim faster, zip around eating all of the correct fish automatically, or help explode dangerous mines.
Standard controls move your fish around in all directions but because you’re in the water, they have been loosened up to simulate natural momentum. Not only does this create pseudo-realistic physics, but also adds to the difficulty by making your movement more dangerous around all of the fishes. There are a number of different types of fish and all are illustrated nicely though their animation is limited and the backgrounds also have pleasing settings. For sound, not much is available except for short effects and they are left very basic.
Feeding Frenzy has been an online favorite for quite a while and it’s good to see that it can now be enjoyed on mobile phones. It does a good job in emulating the original experience and is sure to satisfy all of its fanbase.
