3LW

3LW Biography

For three little women better known as 3LW, the late 1990s and early 2000s were a time to counter the boy band craze that overpowered the teen pop genre at the time. Forming an exclusive girls' club known as 3LW, teeny-boppers Naturi Naughton, Kiely Williams and Adrienne Bailon took their street-inspired musical style and clean-sounding pop music straight to the Billboard charts starting in 2000, and through public appearances and collaborations the three lovely ladies easily gave groups like *NSYNC and Backstreet Boys a run for their money with the teen pop audiences.3LW came into existence with the help from Michelle Williams, Kiely's mother, who held auditions to jumpstart her daughter's singing career. Handpicking Naughton and Bailon out of the crowd, 3LW quickly became the answer to Kiely's wishes. Each of the three girls brought a different kind of fame to the group from the beginning. Williams' public career started when she was five, as she appeared on a TV pilot program directed by Robert DeNiro. Naughton got her rise singing in a church choir, while Bailon was discovered by Ricky Martin at Madison Square Garden while she was there singing with her church choir at a conference. 3LW was all of the girls' next steps in their musical careers, and by 2000 they had acted in the Nickelodeon series Taina, also singing "Til I Say So" for the soundtrack of the cheerleading movie Bring It On. Rapidly becoming teen queens, 3LW continued their success by wowing the MTV audience, releasing their debut self-titled album in 2000 as well.3LW's sophomore release A Girl Can Mack was sidetracked as Naughton allegedly got kicked out of the band, and Jessica Benson won the audition to become the newest member to the chick band. The group's next album, Point of No Return, was released in 2006, featuring production work from big-name Jermaine Dupri.
