A Fine Frenzy, named after an excerpt in Shakespeare's A Midsummer Night's Dream that reads, "The poet's eye, in a fine frenzy rolling, doth glance from heaven to earth, from earth to heaven," is a one-man (or one-woman) band from Los Angeles, comprised of the great singer/songwriter Alison Sudol. The young Sudol has a soothing and soulful sound greatly reminiscent of her childhood heroes Ella Fitzgerald and Aretha Franklin, and although the fresh new artist has only released one album so far, her career as a contemporary rock/folk artist is as promising as her hit single "Almost Lover," which has already made it to the Billboard charts.Teaching herself how to play the piano in her late teens, Sudol got signed to Capitol Records immediately after she sent out a short demo. A Fine Frenzy opened for the Stooges at a SXSW appearance in 2007, and Sudol released her full-length debut album One Cell in the Sea the same year. One Cell in the Sea has since made the Billboard 200 and European 100 charts, and the single "Almost Lover" from the album has also landed at number 23 for Hot Adult Contemporary Tracks, making the charts in Europe, as well.Since A Fine Frenzy's first album debuted, Sudol has performed an opening spot in 2006 on tour with Rufus Wainwright, the eclectic contemporary singer/songwriter whose larger-than-life vocals are a perfect match for Sudol's strong voice. Sudol has taken A Fine Frenzy on the road again in 2008, as well, performing shows across the country. A Fine Frenzy also performed in 2008 at the "Starry Night" Grammy Fundraiser in honor of Sir George Martin, and the song "Lifesize," off One Cell in the Sea was featured in promotional commercials for ABC's hit TV show Grey's Anatomy.
