AC/DC is widely regarded as one of the best rock bands ever to grace the stage with power chords and uniquely strained vocals. They were a fresh sound to contrast some of the slower, more subdued rock and roll of the 1970s. The band’s hits like “You Shook Me All Night Long” and “Back in Black” have become crossover hits known by millions, but the band’s legacy lies with the rebellious rock that brought them to the top. You can now show your loyalty every time your phone rings with AC/DC ringtones. The band started in 1973 in Australia with brothers Malcolm Young and Angus Young along with Dave Evans. When the travelled to Melbourne, the band added Phil Rudd, Mark Evans and Bon Scott to replace some early band members. Most of the band had sordid records and a love of everything mischievous. This led to their first album, High Voltage, in 1974 and TNT in 1975, both released in Australia. They later combined the two records and release High Voltage in the U.K. and U.S. in 1976. The performed on tour in Britain and America before releasing Dirty Deeds Done Cheap. Evans bowed out before the release of their next album, Let There Be Rock, which was their first to make the charts in the United States.AC/DC released Powerage in 1978 and drew in an even bigger following. They were developing a reputation for incredible live shows and became rock legends with Highway to Hell in 1979. Sadly, lead singer Bon Scott died the next year from an alcohol overdose. He was replaced with Brian Johnson. 1980’s Back in Black showed the band still had the ability to rock as it sold over 10 million albums just in the U.S. A year later they released For Those About to Rock We Salute You. Rudd bowed out in 1982 and Simon Wright took his place.Flick of the Switch dropped in 1983 followed by Fly on the Wall in1985, Who Made Who in 1986 and Blow Up Your Video in 1988. They seemed to lose a little popularity with their work in the late ‘80s, but gained some of it back in 1990 with The Razors Edge. They kept their live shows amazing and made Ballbreaker in 1995 and Stiff Upper Lip in 2000. The legendary band is set to release a new album in 2008, which will be sure to add to their legacy.
