MC Ak'Sent, born Krystle Johnson, was only four years old when her father was killed in a gang shooting. Her rough childhood caused her grow up quickly, living with her grandparents in South Central L.A. Even though rap and hip hop were frowned on by her grandparents, her growing desire to realize her father's ambitions led her to join in with some R&B-based girl groups. Her African-American and Mexican descent caused her to stand out, making her rise to the top of an already male-dominated genre difficult.Still, her talent was evident even as a teenager and she had her break when she was picked up by Capitol Records at only 16. She has kept herself anchored by delving into both sides of her ancestry to find importance in family. For only 18 she has an amazing level of maturity, seeking to understand her roots and where she grew up. It has been a tough life for the young star, but her strength, determination and grounding in reality seem to give her the command that she needs to stay at the top of the game. Her training as a dancer with Debbie Allen prepared her for her career, not only as a musician but also as a performer. Ak'Sent has taken every opportunity to grow and develop her skill, and though her youth and delicate looks might cause people to take her ambitions lightly, she has proven herself musically to be one of the next big starts of Hip-Hop. Her ability as a musician continues to grow and will only become stronger as the years go by. Look out for what will come next when Ak'Sent releases her next album. As one of the few females to aspire to hip-hop greatness, she is definitely a force to be reckoned with.
