She had her started developing her music ability at the age of six, she has been described as one of the most successful stars of the ‘90s and her name is Alanis Morissette. But the Ottawa, Canada native has not let that go to her head. She was born on June 1, 1974 and was given the name as the feminine Greek version of her father's name. Her parents are French Canadian Alan Richard Morissette and Hungarian Georgia Mary Ann Feuerstein. She also has a twin brother named Wade and an older brother Chad. Born Catholic, she converted to Buddhism when she was older. She started writing songs as early as nine, and at 10 she took part in a children's variety show called You Can't Do That On Television. With the money from the show, she was able to record an independent single. "Fate Stay with Me" was released in 1984. By the time she was 14, she had signed her first music publishing contract, leading to a record deal with MCA Canada. Her first album was wildly successful, going platinum and winning her the Canadian Juno Award for Most Promising Female Artist. Her 1995 installment, Jagged Little Pill, also became very successful. As an angsty, passionate rant about a bad relationship, it seems to have appealed to the wider public on an intimate level - perhaps for obvious reasons. Following this was the 1998 Supposed Former Infatuation Junkie, which did well, making number two in the Top Canadian Albums. Since then, she has released a slew of successful albums, most notably Under Rug Swept which made number one on The Billboard 200 and Top Canadian Albums. Her most recent release is the 2008 Flavors Of Entanglement, which ranked a respectable number three in Canada and number eight in the US.
