Amerie Biography
R&B singer Amerie is the perfect package of outstanding vocals and model looks that she gets from her Korean mother and African American father, a career military member. Amerie's childhood was spent travelling the globe from military base to military base, and the aspiring singer racked up a lot of mileage from Germany to Alaska before her family settled down in Virginia and she began attending Georgetown University. After receiving a degree in English and fine arts, Amerie remained in the nation's capitol where she met and began recording demos with producer Rich Harrison, famous for his work with Mary J. Blige. Amerie signed with Rise Entertainment (Columbia Records imprint) and released her debut single, "Why Don't We Fall in Love" in the spring of 2002. All I Have followed that July, by which time "Why Don't We Fall in Love" had soared to the Top 20 of the R&B/hip-hop charts and the Top 40 of the pop charts. In 2005 Amerie released her sophomore album Touch, which made its way to the number five spot on the Billboard charts, likely due to the popularity of the record's single "1 Thing." The album also included the Lil Jon-produced title track and more radio-ready R&B tracks that made it just in time for summer. Two years later Amerie recorded her never-to-be-released third album, Because I Love It, which was lauded by critics despite her label's disapproval. Singles "Gotta Work" and "Take Control" sadly never made their way into DJ booths, despite their potential to become R&B hits like Amerie's previous singles. Although Amerie has vanished from the spotlight for now, the R&B singer will undoubtedly not be gone for long as her short career has shown that she has more talent than many of the R&B carbon copies out there.
