Ana Gabriel was born Maria Guadalupe Araujo Yong on December 10, 1958 in Guamuchil, Sinaloa, Mexico. Her father, Raúl Araújo, is of Mexican of Spanish ancestry and her mother, Isabel Young, is Mexican of Spanish and Asian ancestry. Her debut on stage took place when she was only six years old and she is considered one of the great contributors to the Mexican music industry. She is a beautiful and charismatic singer, songwriter and producer who has produced a remarkable number of Gold, Platinum and Diamond records. Her talent and poise has won her respect not just in Latin America but also abroad.When she was 15 she moved to Tijuana, to study accountancy and pursue her singing career. She won her first recording contract with CBS Mexico when she competed in the local Valores Juveniles (Youthful Values) in 1984. Then, in '86 she represented Mexico in the international OTI (Iberoamerican Television Organization) song festival in Portugal.1988 saw the release of her first ablum Tierra de Nadie. It was closely followed by Pecado Oritinal in '89. Pecado was her first album to have success on the charts. But it was her 1990 album Quien Como Tu which gave her a place of prestige in the Mexican music industry - it went all the way to the top of the Latin charts and proved her musical talent to the world.The devout Catholic is now an establishment in Mexican music, having earned world-wide acclaim for the duration of her career. In 2006 she accepted the Premio lo Nuestro a la Musica Latina for "Premio a la Excelencia." More than twenty years since she won her first competition, Ana Gabriel is now one of the great singers to cross over into the 21st Century. Her talent continues to go on, and today's generations look to be enjoying her music for years to come.
