Ana Johnsson Biography
One more superstar to emerge from a type of reality television, alternative rock/pop singer Ana Johnsson made her debut on the Swedish edition of Popstars, where she was cast into the girl group Excellence. Although Johnsson is now sporting a solo act, her Avril Lavigne-like pop/rock style has given her career a rise not only in Sweden but also internationally.Johnsson, the Gothenburg, Sweden native, initially appeared to the public in the first season of Sweden's Popstars, where she was then part of the successful group Excellence. The young vocalist yearned for a solo career, and she left Excellence in 2002, trading in a bubblegum Euro pop style of music for a more intense rock form. Johnsson released her first solo single "The Way I Am" in 2003, testing the waters of the music world on her own. The single reached number 17 on the Swedish charts, readying the talented singer for the release of her debut album, 2004's Cuz I Can. The album caught the eye of Columbia Tristar, who recruited Johnsson to contribute to the Spider-Man 2 soundtrack. She obliged, releasing the single "We Are" for the film, and the song's exposure propelled Johnsson into the big leagues. "We Are" landed on the Top Ten charts in Sweden, Austria, Norway and Britain, also reaching number 25 on the United World Chart. The Way I Am, Johnsson's second album, was even more internationally acclaimed. The album reached the Top Ten charts in Japan, Germany, Switzerland and Sweden, setting the stage for her third album Little Angel, released in 2006 in Scandinavia. Two hit singles, "Days of Summer" and "Exception," emerged from the ‘06 release, both reaching the Billboard charts. Though Little Angel is Johnsson's most recent release to date, the gifted vocalist has since worked with the band Bleak to produce an award-winning track for the Finnish-Chinese film Jadesoturi.
