Angel Lopez

Angel Lopez Biography

Puerto Rican pop star Angel López is a bilingual hero in the Latin music industry. López has gone from local talent to big-name celebrity, scoring hits across the Billboard charts and landing crossover singles featured in television shows, as well as gaining a considerable amount of recognition for his salsa-dancing groovin' tunes.López first stepped into a studio when he joined the Latin salsa band Blanco y Negro. The band put out a number of albums starting in 1996 before changing its name to Son by Four. The Latin pop group was the product of two brothers, Javier and George Montes, their cousin Pedro Quiles and López. Son by Four became incredibly well-known in Latin countries, especially with the band's 2000 release Preparense, which propelled the group into their next self-titled album and landed at the coveted number one position on a smattering of charts, including Top Latin Albums, Tropical/Salsa and Heatseekers. As the band's career heated up, they released the hit single "A Puro Dolor," which launched an English version of the song in the album Purest of Pain. This crossover success led López to exit the group, pursuing a more promising solo career. While singer Luis Damon replaced López in Son by Four, López soon proved himself in the Latin realm as a solo artist.Signing a record deal with Sony Discos, López released his debut solo album En Mi Soledad in 2002. The album reached number 11 on the Latin Pop chart, and the hit singles "Elegiste Perder" and "Entre el Amor y el Odio" graced the charts, as well. "Entre el Amor y el Odio" continued to be featured in a popular Latin soap opera, and López went on to release his next hit album, 2004's Re-Inventado. The spicy album was re-released in a salsa version, and the hit singles "Te Sigo Amando" and "El Cantante" attached themselves to the Latin Tropical Airplay chart.
