The Bangles started out in 1981, formed by UC Berkeley graduate Susanna Hoff, who sang and played guitar, along with sisters Vicki and Debbie Peterson who played guitar and drums, respectively, along with vocals. Their first bass player was Annette Zilinskas. In 1982, they brought on bass player Michael Steele and signed their first contract with Columbia Records. Their major label debut was titled All Over the Place and was released in 1984. The band had a good run, totaling eight years, until their breakup in 1989 that cut short their world tour. While some conflicting ideas of artistry being a key factor in the breakup, there also seemed to have been a feeling on the part of all the members that they wanted to have their own lives. They each went their separate ways, starting families and making plans for their futures. But Susanna Hoff maintained the communication lines between the members of the group.Susanna Hoff was the one who decided to reunite The Bangles in the late ‘90s. The band soon found their stride, and realized a renewed passion for music while recording Doll Revolution, their first album in over 10 years in LA. Where most bands start out with their eponymous album as an introduction to the music industry, The Bangles chose to release their self-titled album in 2008.Today, The Bangles are going strong. Their 2003 album Doll Revolution made the Top Independent Albums chart. Their 2008 concert schedule included Hard Rock Calling, The Cornbury Music Festival and Bospop. Twenty seven years since they started out, The Bangles are once again enjoying fame, even earning new fans as the days go by.
