A trio of production geniuses, Blaze has combined steady beats with house rhythms to create music that moves. The team, consisting of Josh Milan, Kevin Hedge and Chris Herbert started in 1984. The Jersey boys grew up together, Hedge and Herbert childhood friends, while Milan and Herbert attended the same church. Termed "club music," in the ‘80s, the house music they created for other artists continue to play at hot dance clubs around the nation.Influenced by the likes of Stevie Wonder, James Taylor and John Coltrane, the production team worked on projects for Diana Ross, Aretha Franklin and Macy Gray when they signed with Motown in 1989, hoping that a crossover to R&B/pop was possible. Vocalist for the group, Herbert jumpstarted their debut album, 1990's 25 years later, making it one of house music's classics. While with the label, they created one full length album and several short LPs, discovering that the crossover attempt with the single "So Special" didn't create enough of a mark. The group was dropped from Motown Records shortly thereafter. When Herbert left to search the R&B industry, Milan and Hedge continued as a strong production team, creating, producing, performing and managing, as well as owning and promoting clubs and distributing music. They released a few singles under the independent labels Slip ‘n' Slide and Easy Street Records, and helped create Lou Vega's album Elements of Life. They saw major success into the ‘90s with their singles "Hide Away" be De'Lacy, which made the British Top Ten, as well as Amira's single "My Desire."In 1997 the group added Tee Alford, and returned with another hit, and their second full length album Basic Blaze, recorded with U.K. based Slip ‘n' Slide label. A tribute to their late friend James Toney Jr. saw the release of Natural Blaze, followed up by Spiritually Speaking two years later in 2003.
