Bone Thugs-N-Harmony

Bone Thugs-N-Harmony Biography

Bone Thugs-N-Harmony originally started out as B.O.N.E. Enterprise, their first release was Faces of Death under that name in 1991 in Cleveland, Ohio. By 1993 the group had renamed themselves Bone Thugs-N-Harmony, with their members each taking up a name related to the group's moniker. Krayzie Bone, who was born Anthony Henderson in Cleveland, and has also been called Leatherface and the Sawed-Off Gangster, joined the group in 1993. Wish Bone and Layzie Bone were both the most quiet of the group, preferring to remain under the radar when the rest of the group pursued solo careers. Flesh-N-Bone was born Stanly Howse, also hailing from Cleveland, and is perhaps the most controversial member due to several arrests and a several year stint in prison. Bizzy Bone was born on September 12, 1976 in Columbus, Ohio, his chronic drinking problems have led him to be out of favor with the group several times making him the least consistent member of Bone Thugs-N-Harmony.Since they took the name Bone Thugs-N-Harmony in 1995 the group has enjoyed extensive popularity. Since 1994 their albums have had a strong standing in the charts. Starting with 1994's Creepin' on a Come Up the group peaked at number 12 on The Billboard 200. Their next album E 1999 Eternal reached number one on the same chart. Then Art Of War in 1997 did the same, appearing twice on the 200 and both times reaching the number one marker. 2000's BTNHResurrection topped out at number two. Even though they haven't matched the success of BTHNR the group has continued to have a strong standing in the charts over the past 14 years. With one after another Billboard album and a string of top ten singles, this group is really able to produce rap that is worthy of high acclaim.

"Thuggish Ruggish Bone" and "Tha Crossroads" were the two singles that propelled the Midwest band, comprised of Krayzie Bone, Wish Bone, Flesh-N-Bone, Layzie Bone and Bizzy Bone, to quick fame in the mid 1990s. The former tune can be found on the group's debut EP, Creepin on ah Come Up. While the latter single was featured on the group's first full length album, E 1999 Eternal, a record that boasted the unconventional sound of downright funky rap rhymes that never seemed to miss a beat. The album subsequently went on to top the charts and "Tha Crossroads" won a Grammy Award for the newly formed ruffian rappers.Afterwards the "bone rappers" went on to release the double-disc set The Art of War which featured the single "Look into My Eyes," a song that would be featured on the soundtrack of the movie Batman and Robin. Bouyed by their successes the rappers released BTNHResurrection, Thug World Order, Thug Stories, Strength and Loyalty and T.H.U.G.S. Their musical style is best defined as deeply melodic, with dark and sometimes aggressive lyrics. Their subject matter has ranged throughout the years, from emphasizing violence and drug use to spirituality and more recently a focus on social issues affecting today's youth.
