Brandi Carlile Biography
Brandi Carlile is a musician who has recently become known as one of the brightest rising stars of folk-rock. She grew up in the outdoorsy foothills of Ravensdale, 50 miles from Seattle, Washington. Her music, with its rich homey feel, is born of years of hiking, camping and making music to amuse herself through her growing-up years. Her first exposure to music was through her parents, who were avid fans of country. She also had her stage debut at the age of eight, singing Roseanne Cash's song "Tennessee Flat-Top Box," at a local country radio show similar to the Grand Ole Opry.She taught herself to sing and play guitar by shutting herself up in her room and, when the house was empty, singing at the top of her voice. She learned to play the guitar at the age of 17, adding flame to the fire of her passion for music and performance. From that time forward she performed wherever she could, whether that meant playing at a smoky bar or as a backup singer for an Elvis impersonator.Brandi has developed an excellent relationship with the other members of her band, Tim and Phil Hanseroth and Josh Neumann. Despite being named after Brandi, the band insists that they consider themselves equal within the group. Her early success with her 2005 eponymous debut album, which did very well, has been increasing over the past several years. She has recently received some bad press for having recorded a song for a GM commercial. Though some fans began to wonder if Brandi was becoming a sell-out, she has stuck by her decision - stating that the vehicle that she recorded the song for is energy efficient and she wants to support American workers. It will be interesting to see how Brandi's albums will do in the years to come, with her auspicious start and ability to capture people's hearts, the future of Brandi Carlile looks like it will be a good one.
