Bratmobile is a punk rock band that was formed in 1991 by Allison Wolfe and Molly Neuman while attending the University of Oregon. They were known as the pioneering riot girls of their decade in conjunction with Bikini Kill. Determined to be unruly, these young women produced music with lyrics that were twisted, ironic and often explicit. They began as a duo, performing in a show on Valentine's Day with the guitar, drums and vocals. They were joined shortly after by Erin Smith in the summer of the same year. They debuted at the International Pop Underground convention, in Olympia Washington.Bratmobile released their first album in 1993 with Kill Rock Stars, titled Pottymouth, and was the only full-length album to be released by them in their first run as a group. They contributed their album at a time when punk rock was poised to take over the music world. The album is a mockery of the traditional view of female sexuality in rock ‘n roll. Keeping the tradition of angry girl music, the songs run along a range of the verbally explicit, ironically humorous and wildly sarcastic themes. The band went their separate ways after just about three years together, ending their run onstage in 1994 due to the pressures of media scrutiny and the overwhelming intensity of the Riot Grrrl movement. The group spent five years apart, working on their music separately, with each member going in a different direction. Then, in 1999, Bratmobile reformed for what was supposed to be a brief reunion. Their second stint lasted longer than the first, encompassing almost four years. In that time they produced two records under the Lookout! label - Ladies, Women and Girls and Girls Get Busy.
