Buddy Guy was born George Guy on July 30, 1936 in Lettsworth, Louisiana. In 1957 Buddy Guy packed his bags and moved to Chicago, a central location for blues artists, and set out to make the town his own. During his years of climbing up the ladder, which proved to be some tough times at the start, Buddy rubbed elbows with the likes of Freddy King, Muddy Waters, Otis Rush and Magic Sam. These same legends of the Blues helped him to garner his very first contract, introducing him to Eli Toscano of Cobra Records. After Cobra was no longer able to continue, Guy went over to Chess where he created his most fiery music up to that point. From there his career as a musician and entertainer began to take off, and he did a lot of work as a session guitarist for some of the blues greats of the day. He stayed with Chess until 1966, when he moved to Vanguard. His first LP was released in 1967. A Man and the Blues is still considered to be some of his finest work.Since then Buddy has remained an ever-increasing presence in the blues music scene. His club, Buddy Guy's Legends is now the center for the hottest blues scene in Chicago, making it one of the centers of the genre. This music legend now has a place in the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, the Blues Hall of Fame, and has won four Grammy Awards since 1991 for his albums - Damn Right, I've Got the blues, Feels Like Rain, Slippin' In, and Blues Singer. Buddy Guy is currently one of the most famous and influential Blues musicians of our day.
