Caesars Biography
If it weren't for the Las Vegas casino, the alternative rock band Caesars would be known as Caesars Palace. That was the bands original name when they formed in Sweden in 1995. When they first came together, Cesar Vidal, Joakim Ahlund, David Lindqvist and Jens Orjeheim did not have much experience making music. Vidal and Ahlund were the two to start the band and soon they began producing demos. They somehow got a deal with Dolores and started producing records. Some of their early influences were bands like the 13th Floor Elevators and Sonic Youth.Since they barely knew how to play their instruments when they started, Caesars was getting better and better as time went on. They replaced Orjeheim with Nino Keller on drums and continued working on their sound. They released their first album, Youth is Wasted on the Young, in 1998 and soon found themselves ready to try their luck in the U.S. It was here that all of the name confusion started. They didn't want to compete with the casino, so their moniker needed a change. Their label in the U.S., Minty Fresh Records, called them 12 Caesars, but the band eventually just went by Caesars. The album didn't find incredible success in the U.S., but the band was a hit in their home country.Their next release, Cherry Kicks, came out in Sweden in 2000 and never made it to the U.S. Love for the Streets followed in 2002 as did 39 Minutes of Bliss in 2003. The latter soon caught on in places other than Sweden like the U.K. and the U.S. They released Paper Tigers in 2005 and by then were known by fans worldwide. Strawberry Weed came next in 2008 along with rereleases of some of their earlier work.
