Caf Tacuba Biography
If Café Tacuba sang in English, they would be the type of band who would fall into many different genres. They incorporate punk, rock, electronica, traditional Mexican music and more to create albums their fans love. The band has Ruben Albarran on vocals and guitar; Emmanuel del Real on keyboard, guitar and piano; Joselo Rangel on guitars and vocals and Enrique Rangel on bass and vocals. The foursome started the band in a garage in Northern Mexico City. They named themselves Alicia Ya No Vive Aqui at first and listened to American bands like the Cure and the Clash. They soon changed their name to that of a Mexican restaurant. The band started performing in 1989 at El Hijo del Cuervo and other clubs in Mexico City. They soon got the attention of a local producer who secured Cafe Tacuba a record deal. The group released Tamales de Iguanita as part of a Christmas rock album in 1990. Café Tacuba released their self-titled album in 1992. Their first album features fun songs that people seemed to latch on to. That album was followed by Re in 1994, which showed a more musically intricate side of the band. Hits from that release include La Ingrata and El Ciclon. They also had other artists featured on the album like Alahandre Flores and Luis Conte. The band had a strong following of Mexican fans at this point and made the jump to U.S. recognition with the release of Avalancha de Exitos in 1996. It made the Billboard charts and featured covers of already-loved songs. Café Tacuba is known for working long and hard on each album and followed with Reves/Yosoy in 1999, Cuatro Caminos in 2003 and Unplugged and Un Viaje both in 2005. They released Si No in 2007 and have shown fan and critics alike that they are continuing to grow as musicians.
